Bhubaneswar: The Student Police Cadet Programme was launched at the Capital High School by the School Education Department in association with the city police on Thursday. Inaugurating the initiative, Development Commissioner cum Additional Chief Secretary(Home) Asit Tripathy said, “It would help the students in character building from the inception stage.”

Talking to the media persons, he said, “This programme aims to teach the students about the rights and obligations of citizenship in an institutionalized method. The students would put on the uniform, and learn to respect the value and discipline of the police uniform. It would train students in character building and community policing by inculcating values and ethics in them through classes.”

In this programme, the cadets would also be taught values and ethics, respect for elders, empathy and sympathy, tolerance, patience, attitude, team spirit and discipline. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of DGP RP Sharma, Commisioner Satyajit Mohanty, Principal of Capital High School and other dignitaries. 44 students were enrolled in this programme,

This programme is now scheduled to be carried out in 40 schools all over the State which are selected by the School and Mass Education Department. Six of them are Central Schools and the rest are Government High Schools.

Last year, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh launched the initiative.
