Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday urged BJP and other opposition parties to abstain from politicising sensitive matters like violence and crime against women.
Addressing a press conference here BJD leaders assured that the Government is committed to ensure that the perpetrators of such crimes will be dealt with an iron hand and requested the political parties to stop politicising the Puri gang rape case.
Members of BJP Mahila Morcha took out a rally today and marched towards Chief Minister’s residence. However, they were stopped by police near Airport Road and a scuffle broke out between saffron party activists and police. Similarly, activists of NSUI hurled tomatoes at the official residence of MoS (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra demanding his resignation over the Puri gang rape case.
BJD Spokespersons, Lelin Mohanty, Srimoyee Mishra and Sulata Deo condemned the protests which were carried out today over the Puri gang rape case. They said that despite repeated requests the opposition has resorted to politicise such heinous crime.
Mohanty said, “It is necessary for all of us to be very sensitive in such matters. The Chief Minister has time and again said that the Government is very particular and concerned about such matters. We should work towards ensuring justice for the victim instead of politicising such issues.”
