Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on Monday issued a notice to local shopping malls in the city over misuse of parking space.

In a letter issued to the mall authorities, the BDA has stated that the off-street parking area shown in the approved building plan is being used for purposes other than parking of vehicles.

"It is noticed that in some cases, the setback area meant for vehicular driveway for fire-fighting vehicles and the open spaces are obstructed or used for construction," the notice read.

The BDA has instructed the shopping malls to stop charging of parking fee and remove obstructions/constructions in the parking area and mandatory open space, to provide unhindered access to the parking area.

“It has come to the notice of BDA that some of the shopping malls, multiplexes and hospitals are imposing parking charges/fee. This is not consistent with the provisions of the BDA (P&BS) regulations as well as the approved building plan,” the notice read.

The shopping malls have been asked to comply with the order within a period of seven days, failing which their building plan approval might be revoked.
