State Level Sensitisation Meeting For AIDS Control Held In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In Odisha, 48,894 persons have been detected HIV positive in different facilities as on July 2019. Out of this, 86% HIV positive clients have already linked to Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) centres and receiving NACO provided drug. 96% of registered pregnant women already screened for HIV, counseled and tested for HIV after taking their consent. 226 pregnant women found positive for HIV and have received treatment, the Odisha State AIDS Control Society stated on Tuesday.

At a seminar on AIDS control held here on Tuesday, the OSACS said that it has started Community level screening at Village Health Nutritional Day level five districts where pregnant women are tested for both HIV and Syphilis in a single finger prick with kits supplied by OSMCL. OSACS has planned to implement community level screening in another eight districts by the end of this financial year.

Recently, OSACS has started HIV screening of jail inmates at 23 jails in Odisha. Other jails will be covered subsequently. As per the Annual Action Plan (AAP) 2019-20, one new ART centre will be opened this year for treatment of HIV positive patients, OSACS stated. All high risk population are now screened for HIV along with 4s screening for TB to avoid HIV-TB co-infection, it added.

Further, 923 highly vulnerable villages covered under Link Worker Scheme in six districts of Odisha by which high risk population, are identified and linked to HIV services. The main objective of this scheme is to reach out to rural population who are vulnerable to HIV infection.
