Bhubaneswar: A State-level Para Sports Meet was organized at the Kalinga Stadium here today.
This Para Sports Meet aiming to bring to fore hidden talents of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) which was organized by the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department was inaugurated by Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Public Enterprises, Science and Technology.
More than 1500 differently-abled students selected from all 30 districts of the State participated in the sports meet arranged to celebrate "International Day of Disabled Persons" also called “International Day of Persons with Disabilities” which falls on December 3.
Principal Secretary to Odisha government Asit Tripathy gave away prizes to the winners at the valedictory function of the sports meet.
A dance by persons with hearing impairment to the rhythm of music and a musical presentation by visually impaired artists were the main attractions of the event apart from sports.
“International Day of Persons with Disabilities” is observed with an aim to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
