Bhubaneswar: In the wake of several unfortunate and chaotic incidents at Puri Srimandir that have hurt the sentiments of the devotees and has also allegedly put the administration on tenterhooks, Puri Gajapati Maharaj in his reactions today advocated that the State Government ought to put high priority on Lord Jagannath Temple’s smooth management as well as the dedicated rituals of the deities.

As per the age-old tradition, Gajapati Maharaj is Lord Jagannath’s first and foremost sevak (servitor) while he is revered as the ace representative of the Holy Trinity.

Talking to media, Puri Gajapati Maharaj Dibyasingha Deb said, “The management of Srimandir rests on the State Government. The total responsibility of Srimandir management was taken over from Gajapati Maharaj in 1960.”

“Gajapatis used to give top priority to Srimandir while delivering their royal duties. The whole Odisha Empire was then dedicated to the feet of Mahaprabhu and thus, Gajapati himself was also dedicated to Mahaprabhu’s ‘seva’ (service) astutely. This tradition needs to be recalled,” he reiterated.

“Despite being in an independent India and democratic set up now, State Government has to put Mahaprabhu’s Seva and Srimandir at the top of the State’s programmes.”
