Bhubaneswar: A day after distress sale of tomato issue ruled the roost in the ongoing Budget Session of Odisha Assembly and Opposition Congress and BJP legislators created hullabaloo over it leading to the adjournment of the House, Food Supplies and Cooperation Minister Surya Narayan Patro on the very next day found out its solution.

In his media reactions, the Minister said, “Tomato can be used in making tomato sauce. It can be utilized both in the international market and State market. Hence, today I’ve asked both the Small Scale Industries and Khadi Board to discuss with me on the matter on Monday at 3 pm. We have to find out how many tomato sauce making units are there and also tomato producing pockets in Odisha. Besides, how much more can be set up.”

“By doing so, those who make tomato sauce, they will purchase the tomato at higher price during the distress sale junctures. They will store it. Later on, it could be sold after making sauce. We want it to be set up in a company mode either through the Self Help Groups (SHGs) or by small industrialists,” he informed.

He added, “In this context, the important meeting has been convened in my chamber on /Monday afternoon. Agriculture Production Commissioner, Agriculture Secretary, Agriculture Director, Small Scale Industries Secretary, its Director, Cottage Industries Khadi Gram Udyog MD, Horticulture MD and all the officers of my department will attend the meeting to discuss on it.”

“Government is seriously thinking on tomato farmers. All parties are worried about it in the Assembly. A solution will certainly be made,” the Minister assured.
