State Govt Reconstitutes Committee To Review HC Bench Demand In Western & Southern Odisha

Bhubaneswar: While the lawyers of the bar associations in western and southern regions of Odisha have been demanding for a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in their respective regions, the State Government today reconstituted the committee meant for examining and reviewing all aspects of setting up the bench.    

While the reconstituted committee will be headed by State Development Commissioner (DC), Home Department Special Secretary has been appointed as Member Convenor.

Besides, the new committee comprises Principal Secretaries of Home, Finance, Revenue and Law Departments as the other members.

A Notification issued by the Home Department, Government of Odisha dated 28th August, 2019 mentions, “In partial modification of the Department Notification No. 10783 dated 8th March, 2018, the Committee constituted for consideration of various aspects for establishment of Permanent Bench of Orissa High Court in Western & Southern region of the State other than the Principal Seat is hereby reconstituted comprising the following members:

1.    Development Commissioner – Chairman

2.    Principal Secretary, Home Department – Member

3.    Principal Secretary, Finance Department – Member

4.    Principal Secretary, Revenue & Disaster Management Department – Member

5.    Principal Secretary, Law Department – Member

Special Secretary to Government in charge of Home (High Court) Department – Member Convenor”
