Puri: The situation at Puri town, where public had gone berserk by vandalising public properties, including the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) office and Puri MLA Maheswar Mohanty's residence, has returned to normalcy after intervention of Odisha DGP RP Sharma.

The DGP today held talks with IG (Law and Order) Amitabh Thakur and IG (Headquarters) Asheet Kumar Panigrahi over the situation and said IG (Central Range) Soumendra Priyadarshi is taking stock of the situation.

Priyadarshi, who has earlier been appointed by the Odisha Government as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) during Nabakalebara fiasco and most of the Rath Yatras, conducted a flag march from Singhadwara to Market Chhak in Puri town and held a discussion with the protestors.

Puri Collector Jyoti Prakash Das informed that anti-socials are involved in violence during the bandh called by Shree Jagannath Sena in protest of the queue system (Dhadi Darshan) at Puri Srimandir.

Das informed that the queue system will be reviewed so that devotees do not face problems. He, however, made it clear that no prohibitory order under Section 144 has been clamped in any parts of the city.

Meanwhile, Odisha Swift Action Force (OSAF) has been deployed in the Puri town to check any further furore. The obstructions on the Bada Danda (Grand Road), as a result of today's violence, are also being cleared.
