Bhubaneswar: Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) of Odisha Pradip Kumar Jena today rubbished reports going viral on social media and especially being shared on Whatsapp platform that a cyclone is going to hit the State on 28th of this month.
While appealing people not to believe in such rumours, the SRC clarified that there is no information on such cyclone from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
He further clarified that the Whatsapp message which is being circulated is a picture of 2016 which again carries the image of then SRC.
Jena warned those circulating such messages to refrain from such acts since the circulation of such type of news is a cognizable offence under the law.
“We would like to appeal to the public not to believe such stories doing rounds on social media platforms. If at all there would be any cyclone or any weather-related event, the IMD and my office (SRC) will issue warnings well in advance. I would further request all not to disseminate such news based on information derived from these (social media) sources and appeal to the public not to believe in rumours,” the SRC pointed out.
