Speeding Truck Runs Over School Boy, Irate Locals Torch Vehicle, Block Road

Nayagarh: Mob set a stone-laden mini truck on fire after it run over a Class VI school boy killing him on the spot in front of his primary school.

Besides, torching the truck, the agitated locals also staged a rasta roko.

The tragic incident took place before the Khairapali UP School near Gadabanikilo village under Ranpur Police Station limits in the district here on Saturday morning.

The deceased, identified as Smruti Ranjan Behera (9), was on his way to school for attending Saturday morning school.

Irate locals blocked Nayagarh-Ranpur road to press for compensation for the family of the deceased.

Though Ranpur PS IIC and district administrative officials have rushed to the spot, tension prevailed as locals were demanding immediate arrest of the truck driver and compensation to the family of the deceased.

On the other hand, the truck driver soon after the mishap fled the spot deserting the vehicle there.

Later police could manage to seize the body and send it for post mortem.
