Solo Female Nilgiri Langur Of Nandankanan Zoo No More

Bhubaneswar: The lone female Nilgiri Langur resident of Nandakanan Zoological Park on City outskirts here passed away on Monday due to chronic necrotic liver. Her death brings to focus the appalling scenario the zoo is in where four juvenile tuskers who had fallen prey to Herpes virus within a span of one month.

The deceased Nilgiri Langur was part of a pair of monkeys shipped from Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Chennai in 2017. The male monkey had passed away due to a nerve disorder on May 31 this year just after the female had given birth. The infant too had died a few months after its birth.

Reportedly, the aged female Langur had been keeping unwell for the last seven days and had stopped taking its normal diet. The Nandankanan Zoo authorities are planning on getting another pair of monkeys from the Chennai zoo.
