Bhubaneswar: In wake of the recent ragging incident at VSSUT in Burla, a social body has announced to launch a campaign against ragging on campus from the Mahatma Gandhi Park in Bhubaneswar.

The body identified as "Ragging Free Campus Abhiyan" will launch the campaign from the Mahatma Gandhi statue at around 10 AM on Sunday. The aim of the campaign is to organise an awareness programme wherein they will ask the participants to take a pledge against ragging.

Convenor of the social body, Tejeswar Parida said students are future of the nation and they have a major role in nation building. There is a need of identifying their skills, let it be academic or extra-curricular activities. Instead, a fear-based environment is created and they are harassed mentally and physically.

He said that the body is condemning the incident and will continue such drives in various institutions across Odisha. He appealed to students who are victims of ragging to speak out and seek assistance of law.

Parida further said that the senior students in such institutions should also adopt zero tolerance to ragging and create an academic atmosphere.
