**Bhubaneswar:** In a major seizure, the officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized gold around 5.82 kg gold allegedly worth Rs 1.90 crores at the Biju Patnaik International Airport on Monday morning. It has detained three persons of Indian nationality who were travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Bhubaneswar.
In an innovative style, the trio had put gold bars under their feet and had put cello tapes around it. Then they had put their shoes on to avoid detection.
This is the 14th case of gold seizure in last two months, but this was a major haul. All the earlier 14 catches added to 5.5 kg of gold seizure, where as this single interception was around 5.82 kg gold.
Bhubaneswar seems to have become a hub of gold smuggling since direct international flights were launched in April 2017 with an Air Asia flight to Kuala Lumpur . After that, Air India started its flight services to Bangkok in December.
