Sisters Commit Suicide On ‘Pahili Raja Day’ Over Petty Matter

Ganjam: When the entire state is immersed in its ace festive fervour of ‘Raja Maouza’ (Raja fest cultural merriment), untoward incident of two sisters committing suicide following a quarrel over a petty issue has sent shocking waves across the district here in southern Odisha.

Sources said that the tragic incident has taken place in Gudiali village under Kabisuryanagar Police Station (PS) limits in Aska.

Sources added that one of the sisters breathed her last at Aska hospital, another died midway to MKCG Hospital in Berhampur.

The deceased have been identified as Deepa Bhuyan and Jita Bhuyan.

Police rushed to the spot and initiated a probe into the incident.

Notably, the sister duo committed suicide by consuming poison soon after a tiff over a petty matter on the auspicious day that celebrates the dignity of girl child in our Odia society.
