Nuapada: Sighting of a leopard pair at Musarangi proposed reserve forest near Kukudatal village under Motanuapada panchayat of Nuapada district has created panic among the villagers.

On getting information, forest department officials led by Range Officer Asit Das reached the spot and are keeping an eye on the movement of the carnivores. Besides, the forest officials advised villagers to stay calm.

It is believed that they are a pair of male and female leopards. The forest officials have asked the villagers not to harm the duo.

However, the May 2017 incident of a leopard carrying away a four-year old boy from his mother while sleeping and mauling him to death at a nearby forest in Haldi village of the district is still afresh in the mind of the villagers.

Meanwhile, all villagers have joined hands to protect themselves from the clutches of the wild cat. They have also demanded the forest officials to provide them security.
