Cuttack: A barbaric video footage, in which a four-year-old child is seen being beaten mercilessly by a woman, shocked the denizens of the Twin City. While the video was circulated on social media on Tuesday, the woman has been consistently torturing the child, who happens to be her niece for over nine months.

Soon after the video went viral on multiple media platforms, Cuttack district Child Welfare Committee dispatched a team and rescued the child from her ruthless aunt’s house at CDA Sector 11 area.

The child was rushed to the Sishu Bhavan for a preliminary medical examination after which the CWC recorded her statement. According to the child, her parents Dipu and Rekha are staying at Delhi where they are employed in a menial trade.

The child was left by the couple in her aunt’s custody since March this year. Unfortunately, the custodian forced the minor girl for carrying out household chores on a daily basis. "Whenever I was not able to wash clothes or clean utensils, my aunt used a broom to beat me," the child said.

“The complaint has been lodged at CDA Phase II police station and further investigation is being carried out. The police is likely to arrest the woman soon,” a member of Cuttack Childline said.

Meanwhile the child has been shifted to a shelter home – ‘Basundhara’ in the City.
