Gajapati: Young IPS officer Sara Sharma, who is the Superintendant of Police in Gajapati district, has taken on a new role of a singer. She has lent her voice for the theme song of ‘SHE’ team, an initiative to ensure women safety in the district.

The song empowers females and makes them feel confident. The song personifies courage of a woman and assures them that ‘SHE’ team is always there to protect them. After several discussions with young girls of the district, Sharma felt the need to strengthen women safety in the area and thus the idea of ‘SHE’ team was born.

“The girls told me that they feel unsafe while returning home in the night because of rampant eve-teasing. Despite the presence of police personnel, the girls still felt afraid. Immediately, I decided to start the ‘SHE’ team,” Sharma shared.

The team will be headed by a lady sub-inspector and the teams will patrol the streets across the district. They will keep a strict watch on eve-teasing and harassment cases. The helpline number will also be widely publicized so that girls can easily report a complaint.

“While the team will start full-fledged functioning after some days, we unveiled the logo and recorded the theme song as the first step to spread awareness. Men, women, boys and girls, all have to be aware and only then the society will change,” she concluded.
