Bhubaneswar: A day after the unfortunate incident at Puri Srimandir in which the rituals of the day (Friday) got delayed unprecedentedly for 12 hours and also the sea of anxious devotees were forced to be deprived of darshan of the deities, Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) today dubbed it condemnable and stressed that the rituals should not be disrupted at any cost.

Talking to media here at the State Secretariat, SJTA chief administrator Pradipta Mohapatra said, “It is condemnable. The incident with a constable was a petty matter. Process of enquiry is initiated. Till then there shouldn’t be such obstinacy. The servitors were demanding the SP’s transfer and threatened to stop temple rituals. This attitude is never acceptable.”

“I’m very optimistic that the Sevaks would realize it. Had the ‘seva’ and ‘puja’ in the hands of SJTA, we would have immediately solved it. Sometimes good sense should prevail on them. They should realize that they shouldn’t disrupt the rituals of Lord Jagannath. Demands should be presented separately. No one is powerful before the Lord. They should be careful and responsible that they are hitting hard the emotion and sentiment of a large number of devotees,” he stressed.

He reiterated, “Whatever happened, it is a regrettable incident, shouldn’t have happened. As I have too much affection as well as honour for the Puri Sevaks, I urge them to come to dialogue whenever any incident happens instead of disrupting rituals.”
