Bhubaneswar: With this year's general election declared as "Accessible Election", the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department of Odisha has organised a seminar on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in the Voting/Election Process: 2019.

Attending the programme on its second day, Deputy Chief Election Commissioner, Odisha, Raghuram Ayar informed that around 5.75 lakh voters have been included in the electoral roll of the State till date.

To promote accessible election, wheel chairs are being provided by SSEPD Department to all the polling booths. The Department is also facilitating training of People with Disabilities (PWD) at district level for accessible election.

Two volunteers will be present in each polling booth to assist 'dibyang' and elderly voters with the wheel chair. Besides, for convenience of blind voters, braille ballot sheet will be provided in each booth, said Ayar.

Addressing around 150 participants in the seminar, Principal Secretary of SSEPD Department, Niten Chandra, discussed about the initiatives of the Department to make the upcoming accessible for People with Disabilities. Chandra appealed the media representatives to promote participation of People with Disabilities in adult franchisee through their initiatives.
