Bhubaneswar: Security at the Biju Patnaik International Airport was beefed up following an alert sounded by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) on Saturday.

BPIA Director Suresh Chandra Hota said that security at all sensitive areas such as the perimeter, access, terminals parking bays and runway has been tightened after the BCAS issued a list of dos for all airport and airline operators.

Airports across the country are on high alert after an Air India's airport operation control centre received a telephonic threat about a flight being hijacked to Pakistan.

The BCAS has asked very strict access to terminals and operational areas; intensive checks of vehicles, enhanced screening of passengers, staffers, baggage, cargo and catering.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) had already tightened security at airports after the Pulwama attack. Now the fresh alert will saw further enhancement of security at the BPIA.
