Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Women's Commission Chairperson, Minati Behera today visited the survivor of a rape which took place here on Wednesday night. Behera met the victim and her family members and assured them of stringent action against the accused in this case.
In this case, the girl was allegedly raped by her colleague at Pandakudia slum in Bharatpur area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The accused, identified as Jagannath Mohanty, was arrested by Khandagiri police yesterday.
"Perpetrators of such heinous crimes need to be dealt with an iron hand. We are closely monitoring the case and have asked the police to file the charge sheet within 15-20 days. We will ensure justice is delivered soon," Behera said.
According to reports, both the accused and the victim worked at a private-run hospital in the city. On December 3 evening, Mohanty had allegedly asked the girl to meet him, to which she agreed. Both had gone to Pandakudia slum, where Mohanty allegedly raped her.
The accused was arrested on the basis of complaints lodged by the victim and her family members, police said adding that further investigation is underway.
