School Kids Stage Dharna, Demand Suspended Teacher’s Reinstatement

Jagatsinghpur: Students of an upper primary school in Naugaon block in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district along with their guardians today staged a dharna protesting against suspension of a teacher by higher authorities.

According to reports, students of Gopaljew Upper Primary (UP) School in Gajarajpur village under Naugaon block with their guardians locked the school gate and sat on dharna in protest demanding revocation of suspension order of assistant teacher Umakanta Acharya.

Agitated students had also set fire to old tyres on the road leading to the school apart from petitioning the Block Education Officer (BEO), Naugaon demanding Acharya’s reinstatement, reports added.

Students have claimed in the petition that Acharya was not only a good teacher but a good friend of theirs.

As per reports, Jagatsinghpur District Education Officer (DEO) Prativa Manjari Das had paid a surprise visit to the school yesterday and had sought a lesson plan from Acharya which he failed to produce.

Subsequently Acharya was suspended by the DEO, the reports further said.
