Bhubaneswar: Dr Satyajit Mohanty, who assumed office as interim DG of Odisha Police and Special DG Intelligence on Thursday said that he will focus on the Maoist-related activities in the State.
Dr Mohanty said that as interim DGP, maintaining law and order in the State will be his prime concern and will ensure it with the cooperation of the available police force.
The Intelligence Directorate earlier used to aim at traditional intelligence. But owing to rise in Maoists activity after 2005-06 shadow intelligence along with Operations is being monitored by the Directorate, he added.
In view of this strengthening the grip over Maoist-related activities and maintain the trend of non-violence in Odisha will be his centre of attention.
Dr Mohanty further said that the coordination of Odisha Police with neighbouring States is at its best in the last five years and it has also earned fame in dealing with Maoist-menace.
While persons in uniform are maintaining the law and order on the field, it is the responsibility of the Intelligence Directorate to predict any situation and even apprise the Government if required.
As Dr Mohanty was the Director General of Prisons & Director Correctional Services prior to his new appointment, he informed that the prison population in Odisha is over 18,000.
It is prime objective of the State that the inmates stay healthy mentally and physically and even be able to earn a living after being released from the jail, he added.
He further informed that a prison inmate calling system has been conceptualized through which the agency can monitor the activities of an inmate. It is a full proof system and the pilot project is to be introduced in Choudwar and Bhubaneswar Jail on a pilot basis.
