Nayagarh: In an act of utter lawlessness, a sand smuggler swooped down on the villagers by lobbing bombs at them as they resisted his illegal activity on Monday night. While 3 villagers have been seriously injured and admitted to the Surgery Ward of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here, one critically injured has later been shifted to Bhubaneswar.

The villager critically injured and shifted to Bhubaneswar has been identified as Nila Mahakud.

The shocking incident has taken place in Sundhijhola village under Odagaon Police Station (PS) limits last night following which the local police rushed to the spot and investigating into the matter.

An FIR has been lodged with the Odagaon PS by the irate Sundhijhola villagers against the main accused while he was stated to be absconding.

As per the FIR registered, the absconder has been identified as Trinath Swain of Badapada village. He allegedly indulged in the sand smuggling from the ‘nullah’ (stream) flowing down near Sundhijhola village.

Even though the villagers repeatedly objected to his illegal sand trade, he used to give them a damn of it following which the enraged villagers on Monday seized his tractor carrying the illegal sand.

Incensed over such an audacity of the villagers, absconder Trinath allegedly attacked the villagers with his conduits and he himself allegedly hurled bombs and terrorized them resulting in the serious injuries.
