Rayagada: Yet another railway staff was suspended on Wednesday for dereliction of duty in connection with the Samaleswari Express mishap that claimed three lives on Tuesday. Four railway staff have been suspended so far.

While L. SANTOSH (Signal staff) was suspended on Wednesday, Station Masters S.TOPO (Keutguda Station), JAI PRASAD (Singapur Road A-Cabin) and B.PRADHAN (Singapur Road Station) were suspended on Tuesday night.

On the other hand, a team of senior officers from Visakhapatnam began spot inspection for a detailed ground report. A high-level enquiry by Commissioner of Railway Safety, an independent authority under Ministry of Civil Aviation, will also commence soon. The exact reason behind the mishap and precautionary measures to be taken will be ascertained after that enquiry.

Train services were also restored on the route by afternoon. The diverted and partially cancelled trains resumed normal operations as soon as the track was cleared.

It is notable to mention here that Samaleswari Express caught on fire at around 4 pm between Singapur and Keutguda stations after its collision with a tower car.  Three railway personnel were killed who were identified as Senior Section Engineer (Electrical), Sagar, Technician (Electrical), Gouri Naidu and Technician Maintenance (Tower Car), Suresh. Railways have ordered all possible assistance to the families of the deceased staff.
