27 August 2019

Bhubaneswar: Former Director of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) Dr Aswini Kumar Pujahari was today served notice by the Odisha Council of Medical Registration (OCMR).

The OCMR has served notice to Dr Pujahari in connection with a viral video showing him experimenting with edible common salt to treat cancer which is unproven and said to be an unethical practice. The doctor had courted controversy for the incident.

Dr Pujahari has been asked in the notice issued by OCMR to appear before its ethics committee on September 6 in connection with the incident.

Notably, after being accused of undertaking unverified medical practices, Dr Pujahari had stepped down from his post on February 9 this year.

Further, following the allegations levelled against him by the Junior Doctors'Association (JDA) Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Health had served a show-cause notice to Dr Pujahari on December 7 last year.

He was then asked by the government to reply within three days. However, on the very next day the government asked  him to go on leave.
