Cuttack: Tension prevailed on the hostel premises of Sailabala Women's Autonomous College in Cuttack on Saturday after the students staged protest over getting biscuit for dinner and poor quality of food.

Amrita Nalia, a BSc student of the college alleged that though girls from various parts of the State are staying in the college hostel and paying Rs 1500 per month they are not provided with cooked food.

She said that the hostel staff are giving various excuses and not cooking food for them. Such behaviour of the hostel staff has been trending since years even after apprising the authorities about it.

Baisakhi Priyadarshini Sahu, a Plus Two Science student further alleged that they are not provided breakfast on time. The hostel staff are hiding cooked food from the students and also the food provided to them is of very poor quality.

Even when the authorities did not take any action in this regard, the students finally decided to stage a protest.

However, Principal of the college, Chinmayee Mohapatra said she has not received any complaints in this regard and came to know about it only after the students created ruckus. She even said that some students had demanded biscuit yesterday which did not go well with others.

Mohapatra assured to hold a discussion with the students and can reach on a decision only after they let her know about their issues. It is a minor issue and will be resolved at the earliest.
