Cuttack: Renowned Odia poet Rabi Singh passed away today at age of 89 at his residence in Khapuria of Cuttack district.
He was suffering from multiple ailments and had been admitted to SCB a few days back.
The revolutionary poet received several awards in his lifetime including Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman in the year 2017.
Rabi Singh was known for his distinguished contributions to Odia literature in the forms of poetry and short story compilations. His poetry collections include Bhrukuti, Lal Pagoda Ra Preta, Patha Prantara Kabita, Charama Patra, Bidirna, Padatika, Apritikara Kabita, Jawalara Mala, Kshata, Bishabani, Durgama Giri, Jhada, Sarbahara, Banya and Anaryara Charyapada.
Remembering the great poet, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief and paid his tributes describing late Rabi Singh as a very talented poet, prolific writer and a true patriot. He said, “His death has created a great void in modern Odia literature. His poems were remarkable in carrying the values of socialism, human rights and equality of classes.”
Extending his deep sympathy to the bereaved family, the CM declared state funeral for late Rabi Singh.
