Bhubaneswar:    A teenager boy aged around 17, was held in Bhubaneswar Railway Station for having the possession of a rare species gliding snake. He was carrying the snake from Asansol, and used it as an item of demonstration in the railway station to make money.

After getting the information by some locals, the police immediately rescued the reptile. After preliminary investigation, the police handed the serpent to the forest department which will re-locate it in the jungles.

“The snake was detected by the snake man Suvendhu Malik who identified it as one of the rarest species of serpent, the ornate flying snake. It actually does not fly, but can glide a distance of 100 m, virtually swimming through the air. It is mildly venomous, and is colorful,” informed ACF –in-charge, Mancheswar Division.
