Puri: A rare breed of python has been rescued from the bank of Mangala river near Batamangala temple here on Wednesday.

The snake, measuring 15 feet in length has been identified to be from the family of Burmese python. The python was coiled around a bush when the locals spotted it and informed the Snake Helpline.

At around 7 pm a team of Snake Helpline, Forest Department and police personnel managed to rescue the snake. The forest personnel said that the python might have migrated from a distant location in flood waters.
