Bhubaneswar: Officials of Odisha State Food Commission and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday conducted raids at various hotels and shops in the city for enforcement of food safety norms and single-use plastic ban.

The officials seized stale and substandard food items from the hotels and also fined those who are still using plastic.

BMC Deputy Commissioner Shyam Sundar Sethy informed that four squads, one from each zone, of the Corporation are doing regular daily enforcement. Around 23.50 quintal of polythene has been seized by the BMC till October 31 and Rs 13.5 lakh collected as fine.

He informed that legal action will be taken against regular violators of the plastic ban. The State Government has directed not to use plastic bags with less than 50 micron thickness as they are not biodegradable and can't be recycled.
