Bhubaneswar: The Chairman of Odisha Lift Irrigation Corporation Raghunath Mohanty resigned from his post today and handed over his resignation to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas here today morning.

On being asked if he was hopeful of a ticket to contest the upcoming polls, Mohanty said, "It depends on the party whether they want to give me a ticket or not."

Mohanty was the MLA from Basta Constituency in Balasore during the term 2009-2014 and had represented the seat for five consecutive terms since 1990. It is notable to mention here that he had been arrested in 2013 after his daughter-in-law filed a police complaint alleging dowry torture. The family got into a battle in court which ended when Mohanty's son and his daughter-in-law came to a compromise.

Following his arrest, Mohanty resigned from the ministry and he was suspended from the primary membership of the BJD. In 2018, Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik reappointed Raghunath Mohanty as the party's vice-president and gave him the charge of Life Irrigation Corporation.
