Ragging In Sambalpur: Student Gagged & Thrashed With ‘Iron Rod’

17 September 2019

Sambalpur: After the ragging incident of Veer Surendra Sai University Of Technology  (VSSUT), another reputed private residential college in Sambalpur is in news for the wrong reasons. An FIR was lodged in the Sasan police station alleging that a Class 11 Arts student was physically assaulted severely by some seniors.

“My nephew was beaten up with iron and steel rods, with his mouth gagged in the hostel. He was hospitalised but the school authorities did not even inform his parents.  When his parents went to meet him today, they were informed that he was in the campus hospital,” the student’s uncle informed.

‘His condition is very critical. Three days back he was beaten, and the authorities did not deem it necessary to either inform us or take any action against the erring seniors,’ his mother cried out.

Meanwhile, the school authorities were not available for any comments.

Although there are many anti-ragging laws, this menace is still prevalent in Odisha as can be seen by rising ragging complaints lodged from the State.
