PwD’s Rights Must Be Protected: Odisha CM’s Message On World Disability Day

Bhubaneswar: Differently-abled people are an important part of the society and they contribute significantly to its development. People, in general, should be very conscious that differently-abled people are not deprived of their rights and all that they deserve as citizens, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said here on Tuesday.

Addressing a function on the occasion of World Disability Day, Naveen said, disabled people play a major role in the holistic development of our society and with proper training and guidance they can excel in every sphere of life.

Speaking about various programmes and policies for the development of persons with disabilities (PwDs), Naveen described Odisha as an ideal state for their overall welfare. The Chief Minister also launched web portal and mobile app for PwDs and pensioners.

On the occasion, Minister for Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Disabilities (SSEPD), Ashok Panda said that PwDs across the world face many barriers and they need inclusion in key aspects of society. He highlighted on activities focussed on security, welfare and well being undertaken by the Department.

The programme included an exhibition with about 65 stalls, showcasing the various products prepared by PwDs, SHGs and materials manufactured by Advanced Rehabilitation Centre of the Department. More than 400 PwD artists from special schools presented songs and dance at the event. A photography exhibition was also held on the occasion.
