Puri: The minor boy who was captured by the CCTV camera during the theft at Suar Mahasuar Nijog Office in Puri’s Srimandir, has been detained by the police. He was caught with an expensive cell phone and Rs 16,361. The boy will be forwarded to Juvenile Court of Justice.

“The boy has confessed both the thefts, in Ram Mandir and Suar Mahasuar Nijog Office. But, there are discrepancies in his statements regarding any other’s involvement in the thefts. Sometimes he blames two more persons, and at other times he denies any such participation. We have started a probe to ascertain the culprits behind both the thefts other than the minor boy,” Puri SP Uma Shankar Dash informed.

Notably, on 2nd of this month, there was a theft at Ram Mandir in the temple premises. Similarly, on 11th of the month, lakhs of rupees was stolen from the Suar Mahasuar Nijog Office by the same culprit and was captured by the CCTV camera. He reportedly stayed behind in the temple premises hiding himself. Then around midnight, he started his stealing operation and was successful in decamping lakhs of rupees.

Next day, he had bought an expensive mobile phone and boarded on a train to Bhubaneswar. As the CCTV footage was circulated all over, the GRP officials detained the minor boy on suspicion at Bhubaneswar station.
