Puri: Govardhan Peeth's Shankaracharya Swami Nischalanand Saraswati has come out in full support of abrogation of Article 370 and said that India has all rights to rectify the disorder and defects of the past.

Taking on the Congress leaders for opposing the move by the Centre, the Puri Shankaracharya said that it was the Congress which removed the stautes of the Viceroy from the streets of Delhi after independence.

"I would like to remind Congress leaders that it was Dr Rajendra Prasad who approved and initiated the restoration Somnath temple and later inaugurated the rejuvenated temple," the Govardhan Peeth seer said.

"Be it a group of people, system or government, whoever has dared to orchestrate violence in the peaceful land of Lord Ram, has no right on this land," he said.

Shankaracharya said that even if a nation has been under foreign rule for considerable period of time, the human rights of its citizens are always intact. No ruler or reign has the right to manipulate the human rights of the people under even if their is a tyranny.

"Once the same land becomes independent, it has all rights to 'correct' itself. So where is the question of interference or intrusion?" he said, referring to the rights of India on Kashmir.

"Our Sanatan Dharma forefathers have passed on the treasure-trove of science, finance, technology, medicine, meditation, Vastu science and mathematics to the entire world. The people of this world are obliged to our Nation for this. However, India has not been able enough till now to assert this inheritance, and use it effectively for its own benefits," Shankaracharya said.
