Puri Shakaracharya Draws Attention Of ISRO Scientists On Hindu Puranas

Puri: Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati have congratulated the scientists of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2 while drawing their attention to contribution of Hindu Puranas in the field of science.

"It is a known fact that the world is made up of earth, water, air, and fire. There is a major role of earth and water in the formation of Moon which has been proved in Vayu Purana. The distance of Moon from the Earth has been mentioned in Srimad Bhagavata and Vishnu Purana," said the Shankaracharya.

As per the Bhishma Parva or the Book of Bhishma, the sixth of eighteen books of the Indian epic Mahabharata, the diameter of the Moon is 11,000 Yojana (1 Yojana = Approximately 12.2 km) and its cirumference is 33,000 Yojana while its thickness in 59 Yojana.
