Puri: The Puri district administration has tightened its belt to make the surroundings of Puri Srimandir clean and green. To ensure smooth traffic flow in Singhadwara, collector Jyoti Prakash Das and new Superintendant of Police Uma Shankar Das declared the area as no-parking, no-vending, no-begging zone.

Despite being the most religious spot of the State, the corridor used to be in utter chaos and confusion due to streets vendors, beggar and illegal parking. Cows and bulls also created ruckus and the garbage created a foul smell in the area. After sustained efforts to give Singhadwara a new look, the administration and police has been successful today.

While two-wheelers and four-wheelers have been banned from parking in the area, a mass eviction drive was launched to shift the vendors, beggars and the cows. The initiative has been widely appreciated by servitors and devotees in Puri as the new face of Singhadwara creates a welcoming atmosphere for pilgrims. To maintain the look, cops will be deployed in the area at all time, informed officials.
