Puri: The eviction and demolition of the historic Mangu Mutt has reached its final stage today. Additionally, Sanachata Mutt is also being demolished today.
The demolition of Mangu Mutt has been going on since the last three days amidst presence of heavy forces. Today too it is being undertaken in presence of Sub-Collector, Additional Collector, Magistrate and four platoon of police force.
Demolition of hind quarters of Sanachata Mutt is also being undertaken today. It will be completed in a day or two.
The demolition is part of the beautification program where unsafe structures and encroached properties within the 75-metre radius of the Srimandir are being demolished.
However, just like others Mutts, the main temple, gaadi and rosashala or kitchen will remain intact and will be later developed into a tourist point within the holy city. Also, the business settlements have been promised the necessary relocation benefits.
Speaking on today’s eviction Sub-Collector Bhabataran Sahoo said, “The eviction has been going on in a peaceful manner with complete cooperation from the mutt inhabitants and business owners. Today we are demolishing illegal encroachments adjacent to Mangu Mutt.”
