Puri: In continuation with the Puri beautification drive, the Mahodadhi Market Complex located in Mochisahi in Puri town is being demolished today under the supervision of Executive engineer of Municipal Corporation. The building was declared unsafe a while ago and as per a previous decision, it is being demolished today.
Build in the year 1968, the market complex houses 58 shops, and a cooperative society. The traders had already vacated their shops after receiving notice from the Municipality.
A Joint Business Committee had declared the building unsafe after lack of maintenance. Hence, the demolition of Mahodadhi Market Complex was decided upon. A multi-level modern market complex will soon be constructed here.
Meanwhile, the traders have fully supported the Municipality’s move. The Puri Municipality had previously promised complete support to the displaced traders. It will take around two years for construction of the complex, after which the hops will be available on rent.
Even though there have been no hassles of any kind, the Puri administration has still made detailed arrangements for maintenance of law and order situation at the demolition site.
Few days ago, a municipal market building, located alongside Badadanda, was razed to the ground by the administration on October 21.
