Puri: Shankaracharya of Govardhan Peeth Jagadguru Swami Nischalananda Saraswati today expressed severe resentment over demolition of mutts in Puri.
Addressing a presser here the seer termed the demolition drive as a ‘conspiracy against mutts’.
He alleged that attempts were being made to grab land belonging to Govardhan Peeth.
The seer suggested the government to ensure proper management of mutts since management of all mutts come under the purview of Endowment Act.
Indirectly, reminding the government of the history of Govardhan Peeth, Saraswati said that even during British colonial rule the mutts were free and not under anyone’s control.
Such decision for demolition of mutts is an attempt to destroy the existence of mutts and temples, he added.
The Shankaracharya has also questioned the report of the Justice B P Das Commission on Jagannath Temple Reforms.
He wondered on what basis the Commission had prepared its report since it had not sought his suggestion or advice over eviction of mutts linked to Jagannath culture.
