Puri Demolition Drive: Encroached Govt Land In Sea Beach Area Freed For Multi-Level Parking Space

Puri: In a bid to free the encroached land and pave path for the proposed multi-level parking lots, the ongoing demolition drive launched by the district administration in the pilgrim city here shifted over its operation to the sea beach area today.

Talking to media, Puri Sub-Collector Bhabaratna Sahoo said, “It is government land and structures were built on it after encroachment. We followed the procedure and executing the demolition today. This plot of government land is about 1.53 acres. It is very valuable. The lease period has also ended since 2014. Proper procedure has been followed by the Puri Tehsildar. The Tehsil staff, assisted by the police administration, is executing this demolition.”

He also informed, “This is Jatrika area. The sea beach area is always thronged by visitors and remains over crowded. There is no parking space. It will be utilized as multi-level parking zone. Hence, we are now freeing the encroached government lands.”

“Two platoons of police force have been deployed here. Two more platoons will be reaching very soon. Two executive magistrates, senior police officers, 5-6 JCB machines, Hydras are being pressed into action,” he further informed.

Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik yesterday sanctioned Rs 500 crore more package for the development of Puri city as the Odisha Government has planned to transform it into a World Heritage City. Earlier, Rs 268 crore has already been allocated for the special purpose.
