Private Clinic Sealed In Nayagarh For Conducting Sex Determination & Abortion

Nayagarh: The district administration and Health Department on Saturday night sealed a private clinic on the allegations that illegal sex determination and abortions were being conducted in its premises. The owner of the clinic has also been detained in connection with the incident.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials of district administration raided the clinic and rescued a married couple of Cuttack from the nursing home. The woman informed that she had already given birth to twin girls. In the clinic, it had been determined that she was pregnant with another girl and, thus the couple wanted to abort it. The procedure was underway when then raid took place.

The woman was shifted to District headquarters Hospital and the clinic's owner Sridhar Pradhan was held for further probe into the matter. It is notable to mention here that sex determination is illegal in India.
