Ganjam: Doctors enter the medicine world aiming to serve people at all odds. Standing true to the oath, Dr Smruti Ranjan Patnaik helped a pregnant lady deliver her baby on roadside on Friday as she suddenly went into labour near Courtpeta chhak in Ganjam.

As per reports, the expecting mother K Parvati had travelled from Samantiapalli village in a bus and was only half-a-kilometer away from the hospital when she suddenly went into labour and was not able to bear the pain anymore.

As she sat on the ground, other women pedestrians near Courtpeta chhak rushed to her with towels and sheets. They started helping the woman deliver her baby on roadside.

Dr Smruti of MKCG Hospital was passing by the spot and he was shocked to see the sight. He stopped immediately and helped in the indigenous procedure. He ensured sanity and safety of the duo. A healthy baby girl was born with the doctor's assistance.

Soon after that, ambulance arrived at the spot and rushed the mother and her baby to MKCG hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable now, stated hospital staff. Meanwhile, Dr Smruti continues to monitor the duo's health.
