Bhadrak: With just a day left for the much-awaited Bijepur by-elections, the election fever is at a high in the tiny town of Bijepur. The polling teams are at their respective booths and preparations for tomorrow’s polling procedure is in full flow.
The teams left for their designated booths on Saturday morning and arrived by evening.
Polling for by-election to the Bijepur Assembly constituency is scheduled to be held on October 21 between 7.00 AM to 5.00 PM and counting of votes will take place on October 24.
A total of 1400 polling officers and 32 sector officers have been engaged. The elections will be held in three blocks of Bijepur Assembly constituency, which are Barpali block, Bijepur block and Gaisilat block.
Additionally, webcasting will be done at 28 booths, CCTV cameras at 14 booths, videography at 16 booths, micro-observers at 77 booths. Hence a total of 135 booths have been marked as critical, out of 285.
Bijepur Assembly constituency has 2,32,264 voters as per the final count out of which 1,20,135 are male, 1,12,114 are female and 15 are from the others category which includes 209 service voters, informed Bargarh Collector Jyoti Ranjan Pradhan earlier yesterday.
The elections were necessitated due to Odisha’s five-time Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik vacating the seat. He had also contested from Ganjam’s Hinjilicut and won from both the seats and had to vacate one after assuming office.
