Bhubaneswar: Keeping an eye on the illegal money flow during general elections in Odisha, flying squads of Odisha Police have seized unaccounted cash over Rs 17 lakh at four places in the State.
Reportedly, during a checking near Shankarpur village in Keonjhar district, police seized Rs 1.95 lakh cash from the car of Champua Congress MLA candidate Jadumani Barik. Police have also seized the vehicle and is questioning Barik at Champua Police Station.
Another Rs 3 lakh unaccounted cash has been seized from a car at Haradkhol in Subarnapur district and one person was detained in this connection. Likewise, flying squad seized Rs 8 lakh during an inspection at Bathla Square of Patnagarh in Bolangir district and detained one person for further questioning.
Further, Rs 5 lakh cash was recovered from side box of a motorcycle during a patrolling by the flying squad at Khutulguda Chowk in Koksara area of Kalahandi district last night.
The youth in possession of the money identified himself as Sudam Bhoi of Ambasadha of Bargarh district and had been taking the money to Gopal Food & Modern Rice Mill. However, he has been detained and interrogated by police in presence of the official on Magistrate duty.
