Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader Shashi Bhusan Behera on Sunday refuted the allegations of the opposition that the ruling party is lengthening the Mahanadi water-sharing dispute to garner votes.
Behera asserted that Mahanadi is the lifeline of Odisha and there had been a mass agitation across the State for its water. Now when the Odisha Government has established its legal stand, which has been backed by the Supreme Court and Central Water Commission, politicising the issue is unfortunate.
Notably, the Mahanadi Water Dispute Tribunal on Saturday asked both Odisha and Chhattisgarh to submit a joint survey report over the ongoing dispute between the two States over sharing of Mahanadi water.
The two Governments would send their expert teams to each other State for assessment of the projects being carried out on river Mahanadi and submit the report by next hearing of the tribunal scheduled on November 30.
