Bhubaneswar: With the announcement of poll date for Bijepur bye election by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday, the three main political parties in the State including ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) are gearing up to finalize their candidates and devise strategy for winning by poll.

While the BJD has planned to zero-in on its candidate at the meeting of the party's Election Coordination Committee for Bijepur Assembly Constituency to be held in a day or two, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have also said that their parties will be soon announcing their candidates.

"Within a day or two the committee constituted by our party president will meet and discuss on our candidate. We will apprise our president about the hopes and aspirations of the people of Bijepur with regard to selection of the candidate. The final decision will be taken by our party president-Naveen Patnaik," informed Sanjay Dasburma, member BJD's Election Coordination Committee for Bijepur Assembly Constituency.

The meeting will also discuss on the strategy to be adopted and who will be invested with what responsibility, he added.

The senior BJD leader pointed out that his party always takes bye elections seriously and has been winning them and this time too he deeply believes that the people of Bijepur will repose their faith in BJD's candidate since responsibility of its development has been taken up by the Chief Minister himself.

The BJP claimed that the party will surely win the Bijepur bye election as it will go to the people taking local issues of development.

"The BJP is fully prepared for the Bijepur by poll. We are surely going to be victorious in Bijepur. We believe that our party will surely win as we are going to take local development issues to the people," said Basant Panda, BJP Odisha State Unit president and MP.

The Congress which has lost ground to the BJP in the State in the last general elections mainly due to factionalism within the party too claims to give a big fight in the Bijepur bye election.

"On 16th of last month, our party under the chairmanship of CLP leader Narasingha Misra had held a meeting at Barpali with local party leaders on the selection of candidate for Bijepur bye election. Congress cadre with clean image should be given party ticket. Congress will surely win. You will see Congress will give a big fight," said senior Congress leader and MLA Santosh Singh Saluja.
