03 January 2020

Nabarangpur: Close to three weeks after a minor girl was found dead at Gumundoli village under Kosagumuda block of Nabarangpur district, police have ruled out rape.

Nabarangpur SP Kusalkar Nitin Dagdu in a press brief on Friday termed the arrest of two accused persons in the case as a major success.

The accused persons, identified as Khadi Bhatra and Badi Majhi, had murdered the girl. They were nabbed with all the evidence and proof.

However, the evidence, statement of the accused persons and available documents rule out rape. There are no symptoms and signs of sexual assault but the investigation is still open, said Dagdu.

Reportedly, the minor girl had gone missing from her home on the night of December 13, 2019, when she had gone to attend nature's call while her family was busy celebrating Diali festival.

Later on December 14, 2019, her body was found by some villagers from a paddy field about 500 metres away from her house. On getting information her family members and police reached the spot.

She had multiple injury marks on her body and police had recovered two jeans trousers from the spot.
